AlpInvest promotes Perriello to partner

The Carlyle fund of funds unit made Chris Perriello a partner and made two other promotions in its secondaries team.

AlpInvest Partners has made the chairman of its investment committee a partner, and promoted two other secondaries professionals.

The Amsterdam-headquartered firm promoted Chris Perriello to partner, Julian Rampelmann to managing director and Aquila Chu to director, according to a statement.

New York-based Perriello joined AlpInvest in 2007 from secondaries firm Paul Capital Investments, according to the Carlyle fund of funds unit’s website. He has previous experience at Invesco Private Capital.

Rampelmann, also based in New York, focuses on US transactions. He joined in 2011 from Warburg Pincus in London where he worked on mid-market consumer and services growth investments. In 2016 Rampelmann was named in Secondaries Investor‘s Young Guns of Secondaries ranking of the most impressive professionals in the sector under 36.

Hong Kong-based Chu joined the firm in 2016 from Bain Capital Private Equity where he focused on the China and Australia markets. He is responsible for sourcing, executing and monitoring equity transactions in Asia.

AlpInvest promoted six other staff including two to partner: Rob de Jong who leads co-investments, and George Westerkamp in investment solutions.

The firm’s secondaries unit is led by Amsterdam-based Wouter Moerel.

AlpInvest had around €39 billion in assets under management as of 30 June, according to its website. The firm has four business lines: secondaries, primaries, co-investments and a partnership fund which takes stakes in private equity GP management companies.
