In last week’s Weekly Newsletter we presented a list of top industry insiders and a list of the books they were reading this summer and asked our readers to guess which book belonged to which industry expert.
The prize – any book from the PEI bookstore – is winging its way to our worthy winner.

1 – André Frei, Co-CEO, Partners Group
Frei, who joined Partners Group in 2000 and is based in the firm’s Zug, Switzerland office, is reading A Briefer History of Time by Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow.
“[It’s] a great book about physics in general and cosmology (or stars) in particular,” he told PEI.

2 – Andrew Géczy, incoming CEO, Terra Firma
Gézcy, a veteran of Australia & New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ), Lloyds Banking Group and Citigroup who is joining Terra Firma as its new chief executive officer, is reading The Only Game in Town: Central Banks, Instability, and Avoiding the Next Collapse by Mohamed El-Erian.
“I like it because he highlights that Central Banks have been doing the heavy lifting since the financial crisis and explains what are the problems that this has created and could create in the future,” he told PEI.

3 – Andrew Hawkins, head of secondaries, ICG
Hawkins, who has spent more than 30 years in the private equity industry and joined ICG from NewGlobe Capital Partners, which he founded, in 2014, is reading Dude and the Zen Master by Bernie Glassman and Jeff Bridges.

4 – Béla Szigethy, Co-CEO, Riverside
Szigethy, who founded The Riverside Company alongside Stewart Kohl in 1988, is reading The Orphan Master’s Son by Adam Johnson.
“This Pulitzer Prize winner is an incredibly well written and a compelling novel about North Korea,” he told PEI.

5 – Erik Hirsch, CIO, Hamilton Lane
Hirsch, who has spent more than 15 years at global asset manager Hamilton Lane, is reading Seveneves by Neal Stepehnson.
“An epic look at humanity’s struggle to save itself; rebuild; and prosper again. It covers all the bases – philosophy, religion, and politics, with an extra helping of physics (always perfect for summer reading),” he told PEI.

6 – Jan Radberg, head of private equity, AP Fonden 1
Radberg, who leads the private equity team at the Skr290.2 billion (€30 billion; $34.7 billion) first Swedish national pension fund, is reading Dealing with China by Hank Paulson

9 – Josh Lerner, professor, Harvard Business School
Lerner, one of the highest-profile academic experts on private equity, is reading Cloud Forest: A Chronicle of the South American Wilderness by Peter Matthiessen.
“Getting in the mood before my visit to some of the refuges of the American Bird Conservancy in Ecuador next month!” he told PEI

Wilson, who leads secondary investment activity in Europe at HarbourVest, is reading Before the Fall by Noah Hawley.

13 – Réal Desrochers, managing investment director, CalPERS Private Equity
Desrochers, who manages approximately $45 billion in a globally diversified portfolio at pension giant CalPERS, is reading La folie des banques centrales by Patrick Artus.
“Patrick is one of the best economists, in my book as a practitioner,” he told PEI.

14 – Stewart Kohl, Co-CEO, Riverside
Kohl, who founded The Riverside Company alongside Béla Szigethy in 1988, is reading the unpublished manuscript of Peter Georgescu’s latest book.
“[It] addresses what business can and must do to deal with the very real problem of income inequality if we want to preserve our country, economy and democracy,” he told PEI.

15 – Susan Long McAndrews, head of US primaries, Pantheon
Long McAndrews, who is based in San Francisco and heads up US primary investments at global investment manager Pantheon, is reading Grand Ambition: An Extraordinary Yacht, the People Who Built It, and the Millionaire Who Can’t Really Afford It by G Bruce Knecht.

16 – Sven Lidén, CEO, Adveq
Lidén, who is responsible for coordinating all investor related activities at investment manager Adveq, is reading Levels of Life by Julian Barnes.
“I found [this book] enlightening in how to deal with friends who just lost a partner; while at the same time teaching me a lot about Sarah Bernhardt. As so often with Barnes, a lot of deep thoughts combined with interesting historical facts,” Liden told PEI.

17 – Thomas von Koch, managing partner, EQT
Von Koch, who was part of the founding team at Swedish powerhouse EQT, is reading Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari.
