Paul Capital names co-head of Asia

The secondaries firm has added a principal in New York and has promoted Jason Sambanju to managing director and co-head of the firm’s Asian operations.

Paul Capital has promoted Jason Sambanju to managing director and co-head of the firm’s Asian operations, based in Hong Kong.

Sambanju will share the a role of co-head in Asia with managing director Lucian Wu. Sambanju joined Paul Capital in August 2007 as a director in the firm’s Hong Kong office. His responsibilities include transaction sourcing and execution as well as the general development of the firm’s business within Asia.

Paul Capital has also hired Todd Miller as a principal on the firm’s private equity secondaries team in New York. Miller will be responsible for sourcing, analysing, structuring and closing secondary private equity transactions. Prior to joining Paul, he was a partner at AEP Capital, an affiliate of Alpine Capital, where he focused on the origination and execution of buyouts and debt financing solutions, primarily in the media, business and financial services sectors. Miller began his career in the mergers & acquisitions group at Merrill Lynch, where he was focused on financial institutions.

Paul Capital was the first secondaries firm to open an office in Latin America, partner David de Weese told PEO in a prior interview, and is one of few secondaries firms with emerging markets operations.

The firm’s ninth secondaries fund closed on $1.65 billion in May 2008.

Paul Capital manages more than $7.3 billion across three investment platforms: private equity secondaries, healthcare royalty and revenue interests and venture funds of funds. Launched in 1991 as a provider of secondary liquidity to investors in private equity limited partnerships and portfolios of direct investments, the firm is based in New York and has offices in Hong Kong, London, Paris, San Francisco and São Paulo.
