Metropolitan’s Schwarzschild promoted to MD

The promotion was part of 62 senior-level appointments at Carlyle, including a London-based managing director at AlpInvest Partners.

Metropolitan Real Estate Equity Management has promoted its head of real estate secondaries to managing director, according to a statement.

New York-based Sarah Schwarzschild joined Carlyle’s real estate fund of funds unit in 2014 from Partners Group, where she led the firm’s US secondaries team focusing on deals in the asset class, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Her promotion comes amid a total of 62 senior-level announcements at Carlyle, including AlpInvest Partners‘ Victor Backstrom, who was also promoted to managing director. London-based Backstrom is head of Carlyle investment solutions sales for Europe, according to the firm’s website.

Carlyle’s promotions include 13 professionals to partner, 17 to managing director and 32 to principal or director, according to the statement.

Metropolitan closed its most recent dedicated secondaries fund, Metropolitan Real Estate Partners Secondaries & Co-Investments Fund, above target on $550 million in February after 17 months of fundraising, according to sister publication PERE data.

AlpInvest is seeking $2 billion for its Secondaries Fund VI and has raised at least $1.5 billion, according to PEI data.
