Investec ex-US head of fund finance departs – exclusive

Gregg Kantor left the bank in April to focus on a property start-up he launched.

Investec‘s former US head of fund finance has left the firm to pursue other business interests, Private Equity International has learned.

Gregg Kantor’s last day at the firm was in April, according to two sources familiar with the matter. He will be devoting his time to an undisclosed property start-up, which he set up five years ago with family and friends, one of the sources said.

Simon Hamilton, global head of fund finance at Investec, confirmed Kantor’s departure.

“Gregg has left Investec Fund Finance to pursue an exciting new opportunity outside of finance – we wish him the very best of luck,” Hamilton said. “He has made an enormous contribution to the Investec Fund Finance offering, and will remain as an advisor to the business and a great friend of the team.”

Kantor worked at Investec for over a decade providing liquidity facilities to private equity funds and fund management teams. He was also involved in executing structured debt funding and led the team’s lending to the secondaries market as the firm bulked up its fund finance team in recent years.

Kantor will be replaced by Tom Glover, a former managing director of financial services group BMO Capital Markets. Glover joined Investec in March and will be responsible for growing the firm’s US offering, according to a statement from the firm at the time.

Glover spent 15 years at the Toronto-based firm covering large and mid-market private equity sponsors, according to Investec’s website. Earlier in his career, he was MD and head of leveraged telecom finance at Merrill Lynch, and MD, global co-head of high-yield origination at Deutsche Bank.
