The secondaries market hit a new fundraising record amid continued market dislocation last year. A total of $117.92 billion was raised across all asset classes in 2023, more than double the previous year’s $53.58 billion.

By asset class, private equity secondaries accounted for the bulk of the capital raised at 85 percent. PE secondaries funds raked in $99.85 billion, nearly triple the previous year’s $34 billion.

More than 90 funds reached their final close in 2023, marking the second-highest year by vehicle count close. Among the largest funds closed last year were Lexington Capital Partners X with $22.7 billion, Strategic Partners Fund IX on $22.2 billion and Goldman Sachs Vintage Fund IX on $14.2 billion.
