Daiwa’s investment banking arm makes GP-led advisory hire

Mid-market-focused DC Advisory is adding secondaries to its M&A, restructuring, capital raising and GP stakes businesses.

The investment banking arm of Japanese financial services conglomerate Daiwa Securities Group is entering the secondaries advisory market.

Mid-market-focused DC Advisory has hired Michael Wieczorek to advise on GP-led deals, according to two sources close to the market. He starts in September and will be based in London.

Wieczorek joins from placement agent and secondaries advisor Elm Capital, where he was a partner focused on LP-led and GP-led deals, preferred equity and primary fundraising, according to his LinkedIn profile. Prior to joining Elm in 2017, he was a principal at Cebile Capital, having begun his career in public equities.

DC Advisory mainly offers sell-side M&A services in the mid-markets of the US, Europe and Asia, according to one of the sources. It has in recent years expanded into raising private capital for founders and sponsors, and advising them on GP stakes transactions.

Wieczorek’s job title and the nature of his role are not clear. DC Advisory declined to comment.

“We wish Michael all the best in his new role,” said Elm Capital chief executive Etienne Deshormes. Elm has added three professionals to work across secondaries and primaries in recent months, including vice-president Nisha Chauhan, who joined in June from Foresight Group.
