50 South Capital hires strategy and IR director

Chris Bires joins the private equity and hedge fund unit of Northern Trust in a newly-created role.

50 South Capital, a private equity and hedge fund manager owned by Northern Trust, has hired a director of product strategy and investor relations.

Chris Bires joins the firm in the newly created role and will develop 50 South’s alternative investment solutions and services, including private equity, private credit, infrastructure and real asset investments for institutional and high-net-worth individuals, according to a statement.

Bires joins from Citadel where he was responsible for business development and client relationships in North America. Previously, he was managing director at Highbridge Capital Management where he was a product specialist for the firm’s hedge fund and private investment strategies.

50 South launched in 2015 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of wealth management, asset servicing, asset management and banking advisory company Northern Trust. It invests in secondaries, buyout, venture capital, distressed debt and mezzanine strategies, according to its website.

The firm is led by managing director Robert Morgan and has $3.3 billion in assets under management, according to PEI data.
