17Capital expands investment team

The preferred equity specialist beefs up its investment team with a secondaries and private debt expert in London.

17Capital, the London-based firm specialising in preferred equity investments, has hired Owen James as investment professional to work on deal origination and fund investments, according to a statement from the firm.

James joins the firm from SVG Advisers, now part of Aberdeen Asset Management, where he worked on private equity and debt investments.

James’ experience in secondaries deals and private debt complements the firm’s strategy of unlocking liquidity for limited partners and funding growth for general partners, according to the firm.

“With deal flow at its strongest pace yet, Owen will play an important role in the successful deployment of Fund 3,” managing partner Pierre-Antoine de Selancy said in the statement.

In June the firm made three new hires, including two investment professionals with secondaries expertise to support deal flow.

17Capital manages about €800 million through its three secondaries funds and closed its 17Capital Fund 3 on its €500 million hard-cap in December last year. The firm’s strategy involves giving preferred equity to limited partners looking for liquidity without selling on the traditional secondaries market, and to general partners seeking growth capital, according to the statement.
