Fundraising in Asia heats up

Private equity secondary funds in the Asia-Pacific region looked to raise $1.1 billion in the first quarter of 2014, according to data from PEI Research & Analytics.

The figure is more than the combined $1 billion raised in the past five years. ANT Global Partners and NewQuest Capital Partners were among the big players looking to solicit funds from LPs.

In the Americas region, Origami Capital Partners and Lexington Partners were two of the 13 firms aiming to raise a total of $3.3 billion for their various funds in Q1. The amount is more half of the $6.2 billion raised in the whole of 2013.

Meanwhile, there were 20 funds in the global secondaries market targeting $29.3 billion from investors in the first quarter of 2014, according to PEI data.
