Debevoise makes restructurings promotion

The move is one of seven promotions to partner.

Law firm Debevoise & Plimpton has promoted Rafael Kariyev, a tax lawyer who specialises in fund structuring and restructuring, to partner.

Kariyev has been with the firm since 2000 and focuses on tax planning in relation to private equity fund formation and M&A transactions. He advises private equity firms on tax issues at all levels of fund structure; does tax-structuring on acquisitions, holdings and dispositions of portfolio companies; and works on the sales of existing funds and asset managers.

Kariyev is one of seven promoted to partner across several divisions. The promotion is effective on 1 July.

In January, Debevoise promoted several lawyers to counsel, including secondaries-focused fund restructuring advisor Michael Sabin and private funds lawyer Jason Auerbach, who worked with HarbourVest on four of the Boston-headquartered investment firm’s fundraises as well as its acquisition of Absolute Private Equity.

Debevoise & Plimpton employs 650 lawyers in nine offices across three continents. It is headquartered in New York.
