Welcome to the PEI 300, our list of the world’s biggest private equity firms which provides a comprehensive breakdown of the fundraising environment for private equity in the post-crisis years.

In the past our rankings have seen gradual changes in the upper reaches of the league table, with the world’s largest firms moving broadly in lock-step. However, our latest rankings see one firm eclipsing all others in spectacular style. And for the first time since 2012 there is more than one European (or non-US) private equity firm in the top 10.

When it comes to raising money, performance is a must. However our report also reveals that the timing of distributions can make all the difference.

Our methodology

Our ranking looks at the world’s top fund managers according to a very simple metric: how much capital they have raised for private equity investment in the last five years.
